Every once in a while information comes to me just when I need it. Sometimes it is a single word from a stranger, sometimes, a friend. This time is was in the form of a book: The Power of Now . I have to admit that I didn’t understand many of the concepts presented. I have gotten from it what I need for “Now”.

Two things stand out as I think about what I want to tell you about me and The Power of Now.

One: When I say “I am so mad at myself”, who is the “I” and who is the “myself”? Mr. Tolle identifies the “I” as the conscious or the inner self. The unconscious is the face I present to people as I act out my life situation. As I act out my life situation, I will find peace if I stay as long as I can in the Now. I do not dwell on the past or the future it is a part of my life situation. The goal is to strive to deal with the life situation from the conscious inner self, my real self, as an impartial observer/participant.

Eckhart Tolle: “Nothing exists outside the Now. Nothing ever happened in the past; it happened in the Now. Nothing will ever happen in the future: it will happen in the Now.”

Two: When I experience a “life situation” that is not pleasant and even painful, I have three choices:
1) stop doing what I am doing 2) if a person is involved, I need to speak to the person concerned and express fully what I feel or 3) drop the negativity that my mind has created around the situation and serves no purpose.

I can recommend this book and its concepts to you. I also would suggest that you read it through the first time. Then, you can go back to particular parts that may speak to you at that moment in the Now.
