** spoiler alert ** Masculine poet goes down the river, reflects a lot, survives encounter with feral rapists, barely survives encounter with river, climbs a cliff, reflects a lot, shoots a guy that may or may not be the one who done his people wrong, bluffs the police of the town that they did nothing wrong, and reflects a lot. Really is a lovely piece of writing, and manages to accomplish the task of being both introspective and exciting, but I would wholly understand if a reader was to think it came off pretentious. Interesting companion piece: BLOOD SPORT, by Robert E. Jones.
