The 3rd book in the Dexter series, Dexter in the Dark was a decent read, but is not as good as the earlier two novels. This book focuses on the being Dexter refers to as the "Dark Passenger" and the author delves into a more supernatural quality to the Passenger, giving it a personality and other entities like it. I have to say, I didn't really care for that aspect. The "murder mystery" section that has been a part of all the Dexter novels was really lacking in this one. There was substantial build up that didn't really seem to pan out.
However, Mr. Lindsay succeeds in giving Dexter such a unique and loveable voice, and I still found myself reading along, entertained by the pages. You can't help but like the Dark Avenger Dexter as he muddles about his relationships with others, slashing and hacking his way through society's underbelly. Where the plot falls, Dexter pulls us through.
I will continue to read this series. Even though I'm an avid fantasy reader/lover, I hope that Mr. Lindsay steers away from adding more supernatural elements to these books. Dexter doesn't need it, he's cool all on his own.
