I love Victoria Laurie's books whether it's Abby Cooper Psychic Eye or M. J. Holliday Ghost Hunter. This is an M. J. book and really scary but fun.

M. J. gets snookered into appearing on a reality show - a haunted Antiques Roadshow - where she and three other psychics will examine objects to see if they are evil or not. She doesn't want to do it, but her best friend/business partner Gil has already signed the contracts. With her boyfriend, Steven, in tow, they fly off to San Francisco to the most haunted hotel in the city where they immediately get involved in a suicide. Or was it murder?

The first taping is a disaster. Two of the psychics are obviously fakes, but the other, Heath Whitefeather, is a real medium (and a real rival for M. J.'s affections.) Then someone switches one of the objects for a really evil antique that could be a portal between this world and demons.

Using their psychic abilities and Gil's computer researching skills, M. J. and Heath set to work to solve the mystery, close the portal, and send all the hotel's spectral guests to their peaceful resting places.

I love the humor and mystery that balances the really scary demons and murderers in this book. M. J. is a great character and Heath could be a fine new partner.
