I thought this was a fun read, regardless of the ending (although the ending does leave you in suspense and dying to read the next book). The three Baudelaire siblings are taken to the Caligari Carnival in the middle of the hinterlands via Count Olaf's trunk. To prevent themselves from being captured, the three disguise themselves as "freaks" and join Madame Lulu's House of Freaks. This also allows them to spy on Count Olaf and his buddies, who are at the Caligari Carnival for the sole purpose of finding out if one of the Baudelaire parents are alive. How would they do this? Consult Madame Lulu, of course. As the story progresses, more clues about the children’s' past are discovered, and the Baudelaires learn something more about the mysterious "V.F.D." Recommended for anyone who loves this series. :]
