** spoiler alert ** It would've been a solid four stars (because at this point I've got to stop subtracting points for all the casual racism, otherwise every book is a one-star-er) but in the end the whole murder is so planned it's ridiculous. With the string and the stacks and the pig's bladder and everything, and it was perfectly executed? And the Big Reveal was kind of a joke, right? Like, Surprise, he's an illegitimate son! Surprise, he's ALSO an illegitimate son! Surprise, the joke that is Pilar is really the joke that is Conchita! But I mean, really, all that lower-jaw-stroking? Was that a clue for your younger readers, Aggie?

Finally: lay off the happy-ending epilogues, PLEASE. That shit is tedious and entirely unnecessary. We aren't all Hastings, over here, needing our ladies to be married off to gentlemen and live prettily ever after. Come on.
