Any avid roleplayer will recognize how this book really turns your average RPG story on its head. Sure, I've stormed the Goblin lair before, but never have I seen it from the point of view of the invaded. So when Jig the Goblin is forced to help a party of adventurers on their quest for the Rod of Creation, I immediately found him to be a sympathetic character. Despite their prowess, the adventurers are fools, and Jig knows it, and I think every role player has at one point or another felt this about some of their fellow players. Throw in a dragon, a necromancer, a forgotten god, and a dungeon of magical traps and you have yourself a really fun read. Hines manages to inject wonderful humor into the story without making it feel shallow and creates a dungeon ecosystem that feels realistic and is instantly believable. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good dungeon crawl.
