For as much as I loved "Wicked" I was truly disappointed by the sequel (though, I know I will pick up the third installment...I am a sucker).
Just as in "Wicked" I enjoyed the sub-themes of feminism and political activism. The connection to mordern day are plenty, and it is nice to see strong female leads. I am also a sucker for 'redemption' stories and it was good to see Liir come into his own and try to make amends for the very poor decisions he made in the past.
But, the rest of the book just fell flat. While I enjoy Maguire's books, I do find them difficult to read at times. I let too much time lapse between reading "Wicked" and "SOW" and I found myself having to remember who/what certain characters and places were. After I got through that barrier I found the story to be plodding. Not a lot happens and you just read and read without real satisfaction.
