This story was an early edition of Tony Hillerman's Native-American mysteries because Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn of the Navajo Tribal Police is in charge. The unfortunate effect of alcohol and drugs on the Indian culture is sadly featured in this novel. In later stories, Joe Leaphorn is retired, his wife has died from cancer, and a younger Jim Chee is tracking the elusive clues. I enjoy the more recent stories better; however, Tony Hillerman has recently passed away so what we now have is all we will get.

Donna I like some of his later ones much better, too.
