I just finished Graceling minutes ago, and in a mad dash, I scrambled onto the internet to see if I could find a sequel to it. And here I end up with Bitterblue. I was fuming, absolutley furious that Katsa and Po were minor characters in this. I've always thought that the two were destined to be together, especially after they re-united in Graceling. But no! And in this sequel, they're not main characters? Their relationship isn't a main point in the story? Is Kristin Cashore TRYING to stop me from reading her books?
Now I think it's obvious that Po and Katsa are not going to be together.
1) Cashore never intended there be a sequel. Po and Katsa were going to be not-together (for lack of a better word) forever. I call what they metaphorically have 'Friendship with benefits'.
2) Bitterblue is not primarily about them, leading me to believe that their relationship is not important and irrelevent, or at least not intresting enough for readers. And if it's not intresting enough for readers, than they must be pretty dull, because anything Po and/or Katsa do or feel hooks me right away.

That being said, I am not hugely anticipating Bitterblue. Besides, Bitterblue, as in the character has never intrested me. In the story, I felt her character was not fully deleloped and her nature, if you will, changed very quickly, from a frightenend, weak ten year old, to a very mature child. Things such as this, in real life take time.

Please do not misinterpret me; Kristin Cashore is a wonderful author whom reduced to me tears several times. She has a gift for hitting the reader right where it hurts( no pun intended, Katsa). She knows most of her characters inside and out and her plot is fully developed and quite excellent, always keeping you on your toes. I haven't read a book this good in a long time, which is saying something. The only downer was the ending, which I thought to be vague and heartbreaking.

Cj I completely disagree. It is not clear that they won't end up together just because they aren't the main characters. And if she can make you fall in love with her characters once, you should at the very least give Bitterblue a chance.

Jess Kristen Cashore also wrote another book called 'Fire' which is also supposed to be part of this series, though about completely different characters. you see, Bitterblue will be the third book in this strange series of books that have no common main characters. I love both Graceling and Fire, even though they only have one common character who is only a minor character anyway. Bitterblue will be an amazing book just like the previous two books in the series; i am confident of this. Please don't let yourself get turned off this series. i felt the way you are feeling after i read Fire. I didn't want to read Graceling, but decided to anyway and found it an extremely good experience to piece together the small similarities between the books. I ended up loving them both equally!

Katilyn Did you read Fire?

Beryl S.K. Why did you even rate this book 5 stars if you haven't read it yet and foreshadow that it's going to be bad?

Oreotalpa The author does not owe it to you to write books only about some characters and not others. Honestly, I'm not sure where she could go with Katsa and Po at this point; Graceling was not set up as the first of a serial.

So Bitterblue, as a minor character in Graceling wasn't developed (just like all the other minor characters). If she has her own book, presumably she will be.

Then again, I think all these "reviews" for a book that doesn't even have a publication date are sort of ridiculous. I have never seen fans act like they own an author quite so much as with Cashore.

Courtney You might want to read Fire first.

Regina huh? what are you talking about? they arent married but i think PO and Katsa's relationship is more than friends with benefits because they are committed to each other even without marriage. They're boyfriend and girlfriend practically.

Katie Katsa and Po actually play a pretty big part in this book and I think you have their relationship all wrong. You should probably wait to read it before you say that.

Hermione I guess we'll find out when Bitterblue comes out, huh? Though I disagree. I think Katsa and Po are meant to be together; just because their story does not continue does not mean that they've ended. They might even be supporting characters. :D

Elise Tan You shouldn't rate a book before you've even read it... and the Seven Kingdoms Series that Kristin Cashore is writing isn't just about Kat and Po, but each book focuses on different characters (although they are connected through the same setting, which is probably why it's considered a series).

Hermione Totally agreed, Elise!

Carol I loved Fire too. Now I agree with your review of Bitterblue, and ended up depressed. Now why did you gave it 5 stars, if you didn't like it? shouldn't it be less.

Elise Tan I don't think the OP (Caitlin) has even read Bitterblue, but she rated it five stars anyways and decided it would be bad without reading it...? :/

Audrey pretty much everything you wrote makes me want to hit things. keep calm and read the book. katsa and po are still together, and very much in love. bitterblue is a strong, relatable, interesting character and i might like her more than katsa. i haven't finished it yet, but it's all lovely so far. but seriously. chill out.

Elise Tan I started reading Bitterblue too, and I think it's pretty good. Bitterblue's perspective also makes Katsa seem pretty... crazy.

Audrey Haha yeah Katsa does seem kind of crazy from Bitterblue's perspective. XD you just have to remember what the inside of her mind is like.

Jamie Has you even read Bitterblue or Fire? I think not. Your post was full of so many strange interpretations that I wonder how anyone could ever please you.

message 18: by Emma (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emma Ummm, Katsa and Po were still a couple at the end of Graceling... They had plans to go their separate ways, but they made other plans to meet back up. Just because they were not physically together doesn't mean they weren't a couple. Have you read Bitterblue yet? You should...

message 19: by Anna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anna Actually, I'd like to point out that Fire is actually a companion novel to Graceling, and that Bitterblue is the sequel to Graceling.
I think that you should really give Bitterblue a chance- she's certianly bumped her way to the top of my Favourites list, as a character, either on par wih or surpassing Katsa.
Also, I don't think that this series will be about Katsa and Po, obviously, so you shouldn't just stick to them and be afraid to try new characters out. I personally cannot wait for more from this series (:

Sandra Lightwood huh? what? each book in the series was supposed to follow one heroine...didn't you read fire before bitterblue? *blinks* if someone reading this comment haven't read either of those read graceling then fire then bitterblue, it'll make the experience better :)
