What a great read! I've read several (5 or 6) books on this time period (War of the Roses) and this is one of the best! The main characters are two minor characters (Duke and Duchess of Buckingham) from the epic struggle that's taking place to seize the English crown. And of course, there's Richard III. It's amazing how differently he is portrayed.

What I like about this book is that it gives more of an intimate view of what's taking place and the toll this war takes on all the people. I'm not sure how I'll survive when almost all my male relatives are beheaded...but survive they do. What other choice do they have?

The only thing that lacked in this book was its portrayal of Richard III. He was really a minor character until his brother Edward dies. Then suddenly, he's this power hungry, manipulative murderer who will stop at nothing. I think the author should have spent more time on developing Richard III.

I would definitely recommend this book, but my all time favorite is still The Sunne in Splendor by Sharon Kay Penman.
