** spoiler alert ** Great book. The beginning was a bit painful because there was a lot of "street" talk between cops and young thugs and I didn't understand it at all, but then there's the murder of Ike Marcus and everything becomes really good. At first the main cops, Matty Clark and Yolanda, are sure it's Eric Cash and they put him through the ringer. But then their witnesses turn out to be unreliable and they let him go. So we follow Eric Cash, Matty's investigation, the murderer (a young kid from the projects who gets beaten by his stepfather) and the father of the dead guy. The style of writing is unique and there's a lot of compassion without being cloying in any way.
