by Anne Brooke (Goodreads Author)
Sunday Haiku is a book of poetic observations that leads the reader through the course of a year’s time. As the title suggests, Anne Brooke wrote a haiku each Sunday of the months of 2009 which express her observations on nature, life, and evoke the mood of the author at the time the poem was written.
In its sparseness, the haiku presents a challenge to the author to convey her thoughts in a minimalist fashion. As I read the book and followed the seasons through the year, I found myself entering a state of peaceful contemplation, forming a visual in my mind of where the author was at that particular moment. While each haiku is entirely personal to Anne Brooke, they are not so intimate that the reader is unable to accompany the author on her journey.
I thoroughly enjoyed pondering my personal examination of each verse and felt captured within the calm of the poetry.
