I really enjoyed this book for what it was. I would have given it 3 1/2 but I did not want to give it 3. It is a time travelling romance story about a woman who found herself. I adored both main characters and the amount of humour injected to keep the book flowing. There was a certain amount of drama but not too much and poltics has been avoided so the plot races. There were a couple of Elizabethan references I had never heard of and will never see swaddling clothes in the same way again. So for romantics this is a great read. Bring tissues, just a few, and enjoy. Although I enjoyed the ending, some of the subsidiary characters plot conclusions were a little to much/coincidental to be believable.

I would add I read this because it was on a list of what to read after the Outlander series. It is nowhere near as in depth historically and emotionally compelling. The leads to not connect like Claire and Jamie, few do. If your are looking for another Outlander this is not it but it still has many merits. It reminds me of the satisfaction and happiness you would derive from a classic Saturday afternoon watching an old Errol Flyn type film .

D'Anna The Errol Flynn reference is spot on. It is a matinee book...not taxing, yet enough to think about to make it a pleasant escape.
