** spoiler alert ** What I thought was going to be your typical gender bending manga ala Ranma 1/2, ended up something being difficult to classify. Join Mashiro as he engages in a special class where he must battle other students in nightmares in order to graduate. In these nightmares, each student appears in his or her true form, revealing that pretty boy Mashiro is in fact a female.

This series not only challenges gender barriers, it also has elements of the supernatural and can also serve as a romance series as Mashiro is caught in a love triangle on both ends of gender. The story is very fast pace but has many scenes that parents may object to. These scenes include mentioning of menstruation, yaoi/yuri or homosexual scenes and some pretty grotesque origins.

If parents and teachers can see past the strong content, they are left with a story of identity and can also become exposed to some aspects of Japanese culture. The notes included at the end provide valuable insight on the meanings of the characters names and other aspects of Japanese culture.

Normally I would avoid a manga title with a cover like this, but after reading the first volume, I must read the rest!
