This book can very easily be compared to Twilight and its sequels, and I'm pretty sure it has been in most reviews, and probably not favorably. It certainly lacks the addictive factor (that I have yet to fully identify) that Twilight has, but I still read Blue Bloods in one sitting. The writing isn't better or worse than Meyer's, but it's not a first person narration, which could make it more difficult for readers to insert themselves in the story. (Which is the appeal of Twilight, I guess? Edward? Right, which book am I reviewing?)

It's a really interesting premise, and de la Cruz did a very good job of co-opting one of our country's mysteries and using it for her story's purposes. Her plot is compelling, and I think she made a very wise choice leaving as many questions unanswered as she answered. None of her characters really grabbed me, which is usually what keeps me reading, but I'm planning on reading the next one in the series. I am, however, really excited to see how some of the character relationships develop, specifically Jake and Mimi. I'm dying to see how she handles that. It has so much potential to be screwed up and completely awesome.
