** spoiler alert ** Haunting non-fiction book about two couples who arrive (separately) on a deserted island called Palmyra. Buck and Jennifer who arrived in a patched-together boat with few basic supplies are as different as night and day from Mac and Muff whose yacht was well equipped and full of a year's worth of sundries and food. The first half of the book tells of the social differences clashes between the couples and their respective lives on the island. Included are diary entries from Jennifer. Buck and Jennifer eventually leave the island on Mac and Muff's vessel upon seeing evidence that Mac and Muff have drowned. About seven years later, a sailor finds Muff's skull and skeleton in a metal container near Palmyra. The second part of the book is about Jennifer's trial for murder (with author and attorney Vincent Bugliosi as her representation in court). Very interesting court details and tactics taken by Bugliosi. Bugliosi is a crafty, clever defense attorney--and he's not afraid to tell and show the reader this!
