The Fixer Upper is a great read. Dempsey Killebrew is a young Washington DC attorney/lobbyist who gets mixed up in a political scandal. Unfortunately for Dempsey, her boss sets her up to take the blame for the scandal. After losing her job, her only option is to move to Guthrie, GA to rehab a Pepto-Bismol-pink old mansion, recently inherited by her father, that has fallen in disrepair. Unfortunately the home is inhabited by a grumpy octogenarian and dog who refuse to leave. Dempsey rolls up her sleeves and finds that work to rehab the house is therapeutic. When the FBI tracks her down, she has to come up with a plan that will prove her innocence.

I liked this book on many levels. There is a strong sense of place and it’s quite funny. The characters are well developed and seem realistic. Overall, this was a great book. I do admit that I miss Mary Kay Andrews’ Weezie Foley books; however, this book is a lot of fun too. ~~Enjoy~~ --Kara
