One of the best swords and sorcery fantasy works out there!

I particularly like how the author opens each chapter with a brief excerpt from an unexplained text. The excerpts don't make much sense for the first few hundred pages, but it's just one paragraph at the start of each chapter. And then, an important book is found by the characters, and it turns out the excerpts the reader has been getting all along have been from this important book.

This device lets the reader instantly know what the newly-discovered book says, and makes it so the author doesn't have to break the flow of the story to spend 10 pages showing the reader what the characters read in the book. We've already seen it.

Excellent device!
