While I like Dean Koontz's books and I always enjoy the somewhat predictible super-natural adventures of his characters, I was blown away by Odd Thomas. I was aware this book was out on the market but, since I never purchase the hardback versions, I was waiting until the paperback came out. WOW! What a great read; in my opinion, Koontz's best ever!
Odd Thomas (which is indeed his real name) is a very simple man who has the ability to see dead people. While that, in itself isn't such an unusual occurance in popular fiction, Odd is often in the company of Elvis' ghost. That point is woven throughout the novel and doesn't always impact the events of the storyline but often provides a bit of comic relief when the going gets tough for Odd. And the going definately gets tough for our hero.
Odd can see the dark, shadowy evil spirits that are drawn like ghostly leeches to people who are about to die violently. The more of these spirts Odd sees surrounding a particular character, t...more
