Arnold Spirit, Jr. is torn between two identities, "Junior," Spokane Indian, and "Arnold," student at the all-white Reardan High School. Alexie has created an everyman for teens and through his eyes, we can see ourselves reflected. His quest to find a place in the world make this engaging book hard to put down. Ellen Forney's illustrations, which are Arnold/Junior's visual interpretations of events, make him an even more realistic character.
