I read this for the Chick Lit book club. July's theme was books with red, white, and blue covers and this one won. It's YA which I don't mind, but really young YA. I'm saying 3 stars because it was fast and easy and required no effort on my part to read but it was really ridiculous. But then again, what do you expect?

Here's the basic premise. A girl winds up taking and art class. In the art class there is a guy she finds somewhat familiar but she can't place him. He compliments her on her combat boots decorated with wite-out daisies-there is a spark (or a frisson as is commented about 100 times in the book!) Despite the "frisson" the girl decides to skip the next art class but has to hang around and wait for her ride. While she is there the president pulls up (this is set in D.C. btw) to a bakery and the girl realizes that the man standing next to her has a gun hidden under his poncho and he points it at the president. The girl jumps on his back and thwarts the assassination attempts. She becomes and instant celebrity.

Now back to the boy, remember the boy? He's the president's son. That's why he looked familiar and presumably that's why the president happened to go into the bakery next to the art studio place-to pick up his son! It all makes sense now, doesn't it?

Yes the book was totally ridiculous and implausible and I really can't believe I even read it or have spent this much time writing a review but there were some good messages in the book too. Like the fact that Sam (that's the girl's name) isn't fooled by the popular girls' attempts to be her friend once she gets all the media attention and how she stays true to who she is despite all the attention. I think I'll tell my nieces about this one (and the others in the series) I'm sure they'll like it.
