Here's another interesting case where the cover of a book totally belies its story. "What if you were the middle child stuck between two sets of twins" reads the script over a sweet illustration of two girls set against a prim rose pattern. Let's change that to ' What if you could time travel back to 1935 and rescue your twin from abuse and possibly an untimely death at the hands of an evil relative" The illustration would be of a girl locked in a dusty attic with a pair of broken glasses. That's more like it.
This book has a very dark side to it-- as Miri travels from modern day to the Great Depression, she meets Molly, who lives with relatives after the death of her mother. She is treated horribly and we begin to fear for her life. On the flip side, Miri is the third child in a family of 5-sandwiched between twins. Her mother behaves erratically. This story was called uplifting in one review I read. I didn't find it that way at all. The ending was too easy for the rest of the story; I was disappointed.
