it was amazing
bookshelves: fantasy, ya
Read from July 16 to 25, 2010

Certainly my favorite book by Garth Nix, so far, Sabriel has earned its place on my top YA fantasy list. The cohesive storytelling and amazing attention to detail support the twisting and turning plot allowing for a wild ride that is entirely believable. Nix's settings are described with precision and rich details that allow a reader to lose herself entirely in a magical kingdom that has been taken over by the dead. Sabriel is a teenage necromancer learning her skills the hard way in a trial by fire. While she fights the dead and the story builds to her fight with the Greater Dead Kerrigor, she manages to free the spelled prince of 200 years ago and together they are challenged in a duel with death to save the Kingdom, or what's left of it. A very satisfying read.

Amani Omg I read this book and loved it. While it is a little confusing at first, it gets really exciting about a hundred pages in. But you probably already know that XD *just notcied that you're sixty pages in*

Coquille Fleur Yep, I'm loving it. I started with Lirael first just b/c I had a copy sitting around that my son read and he absolutely loved those books. I sort of know what is going to happen already w/Touchstone, but oh well. It's still awesome. I'm on pg. 253 now and I got the girl who sits next to me at work reading them all, too. She went out and bought all 3 and loves them, too. Garth Nix did a great job with setting up the charter magic and necromancy with such clear rules that he follows throughout. These are his best books, IMO, other stuff I've read by him wasn't that great.

Amani I haven't read anything else by him, but I agree that Mr. Nix did an excellent job in describing their world, how it works, and its rules. ^^
