Its unfortunate really....this book starts out really amazing focusing on the fast pace happenings surround Enoch (Stephenson's most intersting character), Daniel, etc.

The early Issac Newton happenings are also great. The book is at its best when Neal surrounds us with his characters going back and forth debating religion and philosophy...the book gets long winded about half way through and he spends pages at a time describing scene that does not have much to do with the plot as a whole.

The current (1700s) time part of the novel are OK moving forward but the pirate chunks happen in a hurry and in short bursts.

I will be reading the next book in the series, but I was far from blown away despite Neal's obvious talent.
