Written as a diary of a thirteen-year-old girl on the Oregon Trail with her family in 1847. I think girls from, say 8-12 would enjoy this book. It contains many interesting, historic details about the trek. However, often modern attitudes creep into the history. And I was disappointed that although Hattie finally had good feelings towards boys, Indians, and even the woman who stole things from everyone in the group----still, Mormons were seen as strange and suspicious people.
