I discovered Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" books a few months ago, and have read about 8 of them so far. Some are better than others. Discworld is a place that exists on a disc (as you might've guessed) that rests on four elephants standing on the back of a giant turtle swimming through space (which you probably wouldn't've guessed). It's populated by a weird assortment of comic characters, various countries and cities, magic aplenty, all interwoven from book to book. This one wasn't one of my favorites. It featured a character I hadn't met before, Brutha the novice at a Citadel. In Discworld, gods compete for people to believe in them, which is where they get their power. One particular god (the god of this particular citadel) hasn't had any believers in a long time, and manifests to Brutha as a tortoise who had just been dropped from the sky by an eagle who was trying to split his shell on a rock so he could eat him.
