I just finished this novel, and I'm not happy. This is Frost's first novel, and it is AWESOME...great plot, great writing, great sex scenes, laugh-outloud dialogue...just a pure delight. And I am totally in love with the vampire, Bones. One of the best vamp characters ever.
So why am I not happy? Everything fell apart at the end. It switched from being a wonderful paranormal romance novel to one of those exahusting urban fantasy novels. One action scene after another until you lost track of what was happening in page after page of fighting, blood, and gore. Worst of all the main character, Cat, walks away from Bones, the love of her life, for all the wrong reasons.
In the end Bones and Cat are facing a big problem. For some reason Cat at 22 years old thinks her solution to this problem (which is silly) is better than Bone's solution, even though he is a Master Vampire several hundred years old. Ugh! So the book doesn't end well to put it mildly. I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger ending. It's mmore like the book ended in the middle of the story. Meh! Not the way a paranormal romance novel should end.
The only saving grace is I know Bones is laughing his head off at Cat's lack of faith in him. Just goes to show you what a great guy he is (grin).
So read this book and love all the good stuff about it. It's a great ride, and Frost is an incredibly talented writer. Just don't expect a satisfying ending.

Laura-I just saw this review of yours. Have you had a chance to read the next book in the series? "One Foot in the Grave"? These books are by far my fav, fave, favorite! I love this author. Seriously, you should check this one out. If you didn't like the ending in the first, this is a continuation of it.
Hi, Jen--I haven't read that one yet, but I do hear Bones comes back in that one, and he is as yummy as ever. For Bones I would read anything...what a yummy guy!! So it is on my TBR list to read at some point. Although I do hear it is very urban fantasy....lots of dashing around and fighting, which was my main complaint about the ending of the first one. But, don't worry, I will read it at some point. Her writing was fabulous in the first one.

Laura just read your review of Frost's first novel you have to read the second . I think you'll be very satisfied with the ending and the bedroom scene b/t Bones and Cat is just delicious.

Yeah they were hot but I'm talking about the one where Cat was trying to show Andrea? that she cn handle all of Bones rauchines. I'm not a prude but that scene had me blushing.I didn't think Frost was going to take it there but she did.Jen i think you know what I mean. I won't ruin it for Laura.
Hi, Jael--Raunchiness? Cool. You really know how to entice me, don't you (naughty smile)? Can't wait to read this one now. I'll let you know what I think when I do. Sounds muuuuuuch better than I thought it did after hearing your thoughts about it. Thanks again!

You might want to add that this review has major spoiler points in it. Sort of ruined the end of the book for me.
Sorry, Teryl! I don't think when I did this review back in 2007 Goodreads had that cool spoiler feature they have now. But thanks for your comment. Since then I have read the first three novels in this series. If you like PNR you will love the first two. The third one gets kinda UF. So if you are also a UF fan you will love the direction this series is moving in.
And Bones is still one of the yummiest vamps ever. Whew! Don't let my review keep you from trying a series you might enjoy. Happy reading!

No doubt about it! The second one is FANTASTIC!!!! Loved it. It is like Part 2 of this one. You're gonna adore Bones. yummmmmmmy! ;)xoxo

Spoiler, arg! Can you edit your review, please, for the sake of other people reading it later? I really wish I hadn't read this.

Okay, I have never heard of Jacquelyn Frank, and I just checked, and she is not on my TBR list. So tell me what you like so much about this series, and I'll add it to my list. Yummy!
As for "Halfway to the Grave" do go ahead and read it. I adored it and was thinking 5 stars all the way up to the last 50 pages, which leads up to the ending. Still, I gave it 4 stars just because it was so awesome up until then.
