Yeah, she doesn't quote him directly, but I think it's pretty clearly an Eliot reference. One of the characters mentions him in passing.

This turned out to be one of my favorite Fitzgeralds so far (the other is The Bookshop). Hermione Lee is working on a Fitzgerald bio, so since I know I'll want to read that, I figured I'd better read all Fitzgerald's books!
