This was my first Nelson DeMille book and I thought was OK. This was a quick read and probably good for the beach or a flight. It started out sort of rough for me but it got better as the plot developed and I got to know the characters. I had two main problems with the book that kept me from rating it higher. First, I felt DeMille was trying too hard to make the main character, John Corey, appear as a tough, hardened, macho guy. It came across as forced and I felt it could be dialed down a bit or shown through subtle actions. This continued throughout the book but I learned to ignore most of it as I read.

The second problem I had was the author's gratuitous description of sex scenes and sexual references. This happened mostly in the beginning of the book and, since I wasn't familiar with the author's work, I wasn't sure if I was reading a harlequin romance of some type for men.
