it was ok
bookshelves: ya, fantasy-supernatural, grown-up-books
Recommended for: fans of the Twilight books

I really liked the first third of this book and I wanted to like the rest of it too. Unfortunately, the plot gets extremely convoluted and nothing seems to come together in the end. Sunshine is a great character, a welcome change from Bella of Twilight fame. She is the powerful one, the one who can actually save her vampire and so the relationship between the girl and the vampire is less creepily controlling that that of Twilight's Bella and Edward. Actually, I liked all the characters a lot (especially the librarian best friend). I just was a bit bored by what was happening to them.

Also there was a really weird graphic (almost) sex scene that seemed to come out of nowhere. It was odd because, there's really no other sex in the book. It's implied but not described and then all of a sudden there's this very frank description. It seemed like it was there to make this an adult book rather than YA.
