really liked it
bookshelves: adults

Kingsolver's characters annoy the heck out of me!! Nathan is so completely frustrating that I'd have to put the book down. This is when she's at her best. If she can create a fictional person that makes me feel genuine emotion, she's done her job. At other times, however, and particularly with Rachel, I think she tried too hard. Rachel's voice is just too much; she's very clearly a child written by an adult. Still, this is a good book.
