I was lucky enough to read an ARC of this book and I loved it. While it deals with a difficult subject, it is an important one for both boys and girls to read and understand (and has one of my new favorite opening lines). Far from being a dry 'issue' book, the author has created an intriguing secret society of kids who bring justice to and for each other at their boarding school.

Alex is a multi-dimensional character who is a reluctant hero that many high school girls will relate to and understand. Nothing in this book is cut and dry - rather the situations and revelations will give readers much to discuss as they put themselves in her place. The Mockingbirds shows how the actions of one person can affect the lives of many and I can't wait until my sons are old enough to share this book with them.
