Oshinsky exposes the interconnectedness and co-dependencies of politics, science, philanthropy, race, class and the media in this excellent account of polio's "reign of terror" in America and the race to find the cure. Jonas Salk may have lost the battle to Albert Sabin in the minds of his medical peers, but he certainly won the war for the hearts of the American public.
