Pale Demon was great! If you haven't read the previous books, don't bother with this one. There are multiple story lines that have been developed throughout the series continuing through this one. I love this series, and I think Rachel definitely gets better as she grows. Pale Demon includes a cross-country road trip with unlikely allies to fight Rachel's shunning in San Francisco and a fight with the worst demon yet. Rachel also has to come to terms with who and what she is. I love Rachel's determination to do the right thing, even if it's wrong for everyone else. Her loyalty is admirable, and the interaction with Jenks, Ivy, Trent, Al, Pierce, and everyone else is usually cause for a few chuckles. I love the developing of relationships with former enemies. You never know what's going to happen in the crazy world of The Hollows.
