The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

I might be controversial by giving this book only 3 stars, but it didn't click with me the way I expected it to based on the universal "Wao" it got from everyone else. All those Mordor references felt forced, and I felt a bit attacked as a reader rather than invited. Anyone else want to join in my dissent?

Zan, I felt the same way about this book. Let's make out.

I'm kind of enjoying the way he is teetering back and forth with references to an array of genres that a single person/walk of life may not have the scope to capture right away. I like the challenge. I also enjoy how some parts are shoved down my throat, it tingles the senses. Its definitely an abrasive read at some points, but the way I see it if all texts read smooth and inviting I'd get a little bored. I also find I'm learning an incredible amount about the DR and Dominican culture. Good Stuff.
