Even if you're not a dog-lover, you'll fall for Chet, the partner of private investigator Bernie Little. Our narrator Chet knows that Bernie, like all humans, can't see, smell, hear or taste as well as a dog, but he idolizes Bernie all the same. This time, the impecunious Bernie has been hired to be bodyguard of a small show dog, and been fired almost as speedily. When the dog and her owner are kidnapped, Bernie knows that he'll have to find them. He doesn't bargain on being separated from Chet, who finds out a lot which he then is unable to communicate to Bernie, not to mention his problem with getting distracted and forgetting what he's doing. Second in a series.
