I've read several of DeMille's books - my favorite was Charm School. This latest has the hero (John, a disabled but still healthy NYPD officer contracting with Anti-Terrorist group of FBI or Homeland Security) chasing and being chased by "The Lion". The Lion is a Libyan killer who is out to both avenge the deaths of his family (who were bombed in 1980's by US) and to show his wrath at all US and the West. John and the Lion have a history.

The story unfolds as one might expect: The last 50 pages are breathless.

DeMille has a good sense of sarcastic humor in his writing style. John forever is thinking something sarcastic, but most of the time talking fine. Lots of little quips. Here are two of my favorites, not quite word for word and taken out of context: "like going to a wet burka contest held at a Mid-Eastern hooka bar", and "I too am opposed to and hate alcohol, but I like to drink booze".

The setting for this novel is mostly in NY, about 3 years after 9/11. John's wife, also an agent, has an awful run in with the Lion, who is taunting John - and this incident involved a sky diving day where John saves the day. It sets the stage for the last 1/2 of the book.

It's not a 5-star book, because not much new here (oh, unless you count sticking ice picks through top of head of a man and he walks around for 5 minutes like a zombie before collapsing). Just a good old thriller.
