The Shadow of Your Smile
by Mary Higgins Clark
by Mary Higgins Clark
It is true that there are certain expectations when you pick up a Mary Higgins Clark book, and I suppose this one contained all those things. But I will tell you this was far from satisfying. I will admit that there are one or two small surprises, but overall the predictability is so prevalent that it is distracting.
But my biggest issue with the book--all the inner dialogue. Nearly every character recounts events in their mind over coffee the next morning. Very little action occurred in real time and it became more than a little annoying.
I can appreciate the positive nature of this book, but there are too many problems that are distracting (in addition to what I've already mentioned, this book definitely needs to go through the editing process a few more times).
Reading this book (and another MHC in the recent past) makes me want to re-read my favorite--A Cry in the Night--and see if it is really as good as I remember it.

I may have to go back to Remember Me and see if it is as good as I remember.
