Despite the title, the derviatives traders at J. P. Morgan, who did so much in the 1990s to popularize & create collaterialized debt obligations and credit default swaps (CDOs and CDS) were rather prudent in their use. Tett gaves an explanation of how these devices made the panic possible. One of the more helpful books in explaining how the panic was possible.
