Interesting account of Operation Gomorrah, the mostly British bombing of Hamburg in July 1943. The bombing resulted in a fire storm, a sort of hurricane of fire, which killed tens of thousands. The British didn't expect the fire storm, but by this period of the war British bombing was mainly intended to burn down cities; the majority of a bomber's payload was devoted to incendiaries. Gruesome accounts from the German survivors; as well as accounts from the aircrew
