really liked it
bookshelves: series, historical-romance, western-cowboy

This is such a fun read. Light, sassy, naughty writing, with lots of "oh shit"s and "darlin'"s. You can almost hear the spittoon pinging in the saloon and jangling spurs. The men have practically no social skills, the women charge extra for spanking and the Sheriff's diplomatic skills begin and end with drawing his gun (no, not that gun!!!). The steamy bits aren't really steamy, but the story doesn't suffer for it.

It's wonderful to have a western heroine who stands up for herself, and others, but isn't sanctimonious or a spitfire, but equally doesn't spend most of the book in doormat-mode only to experience a revelation towards the end. She was essentially a sensible, passionate woman, and I loved her.

The hero is also wonderful. I mean, who can resist a gorgeous, sexy doctor, who spends a lot of his time trying to prevent the Sheriff from putting bullet holes into people, even if he does blub after too much booze?

4 stars. Great fun.
