***3,5*** I don't know what I was expecting when I picked up this little book at the airport last summer. I finally got around to reading it and I was pleasantly surprised. This book is a beautiful story of the strong bond that can exist between brothers. The story of Charlie St. Cloud is embracing, emotional, enchanting even. Admittedly, it is a light and easy read, and I would have liked to have a little more depth, a little more flesh to the story overall, still, Ben Sherwood did an excellent job of bringing simple and warm characters to life in a spiritually tinted context. Briefly it made me think of "The Lovely Bones" (by Alice Sebold), which is another highly recommendable read because of its endearing characters. Ben Sherwood does a good job of capturing the world of the spirits and our world at the same time. Indeed, what makes it work for me is that this book brings us ordinary people in an extraordinary tale.
