The overall sequence of 1) Dieckmann cyclization, 2) beta-ketone ester alkylation, and 3) decarboxylation is an excellent method for preparing 2-substituted cylcohexanones and cylclopentanones!

But I still don't know what double resonance spin-spin decoupling is... grrrrr.
