I'm not sure I can adequately review this book because I think it occupies a dimension of time and space that I've never been to. 12 year old hallway patrol legend Griff Carver transfers to a new school where trouble is afoot. The narrative is pure 40 year old cop talk, and the setting and situation are definitely middle school. For the most part it works, strangely. Sometimes it does not. I will give it up to the author for the most hysterical fight scene I've ever read in a young adult book. Krieg left the story open for a sequel or two, which I would probably read. However, the juxtaposition of a badass twelve year old hall monitor with dialog containing words most adults don't know left me a bit uncomfortable. And that's probably how Griff Carver likes it.
