This dishy little novel is a must-read for any fan of Audrey Hepburn and the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. The author notes that he sought to "re-create history more than merely recount it", navigating "a perilous path between the analytic interpretation and the imaginative one" - and he certainly succeeds here. The prose is engaging and witty, rather than factual and dry; I especially loved his amusing depictions of Audrey's famous initial encounter with Colette and her rocky introduction to Givenchy, which launched her role as his muse, shaking the foundation of the fashion world. The central thesis of this work is the idea of Breakfast at Tiffany's as a reflection of America's sexual revolution, and any current lover of chick lit, Bridget Jones and Sex and the City will be intrigued by the way this classic film changed our views of womanhood, urban life and media's depiction of extramarital sex.
