This was one of my favorite books of the year and a stay-up-late and keep reading book. It is a story of the island of Guernsey during the German occupation of WWII. I wasn’t aware of this part of WWII history and was touched to learn about the resilience of the people of Guernsey. I developed a true affection for the characters in the story–laughing, crying and worrying along with them. The story is told in a unique form consisting solely of letters between the literary society members. A reviewer of this book said, “I never wanted to join a club so desperately as I did while reading Guernsey,” and I felt the same way. The literary society members were the caring friends we all wish we had. This is a book I will enjoy reading again!
