Fever Pitch
by Nick Hornby
by Nick Hornby
I'm not a soccer fan by any means (go figure, I'm an American) and I probably only gave this sport a fleeting moment of my attention when David Beckham came to Los Angeles to play for the Galaxy but with the 2010 World Cup being played in South Africa, I was inspired to read this memoir by one of my favorite authors, Nick Hornby. Hornby is from England (where they call soccer football) and in his book he talks about his lifelong passion for the sport, in particular, his obsession for the Arsenal team. To say he is a fan is to put it mildly and the way he talked about his team you could have sworn he sounded just like a guy, here in the States, who would talk about the Dodgers or Yankees, the devotion is that similar.
I enjoyed reading this book and came away from it feeling like I understand a little bit better now why men become so addicted to sports , which will make me more tolerant towards my husband during the San Diego Chargers football season :)
