balanced, artful prose. a limpid examination of a boy's soul under the pressure of relative poverty and abuse. an achievement of literary style that launched a flood of literary biographies. truly noteworthy in this regard. and yet...and yet a complete disregard for the idea of story. as there are style snobs, i am a story snob. the narrative picks up at an arbitrary point in time and then at its end accelerates into the nebulous 'rest of my life.' as artful as the prose style is, the narrative style is artless. no judgment it exercised to construct a narrative. post modern? possibly. if you like that sort of thing, you will like this. this is not my sort of thing.

John Zeleznik A staple of my 12th grade English class this year! And a former Syracusan too! Enjoy.
