A sweet little book with a fascinating premise. The main character is slowly going blind, and her friend (and star-crossed lover) creates a device that allows her to continue to write letters to him. Wallace's prose is so incredibly descriptive without really referencing the sense of sight once blindness sets in. She relies on other modes of description, staying true to Carolina's plight. Touch, sounds, and a general intuitive sense help to develop an understanding of the setting. Nothing gets wrapped up too tidily, so it never really delves into cliche romance. Recommended.
